A rare joint icon depicts St. Basil and the Circumcision of Jesus. In some parts of the Church they were once celebrated on the same day.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Holy God, you have brought us in wholeness to a new year: Make us aware of the needs of others, determined in our efforts to meet both their needs and ours, especially in this time of war and economic recession, and joyful in gratitude for all that we have; that the passing of time may bring us closer to you in this life, as we look forward to your nearness in the life to come, with Jesus Christ our Savior and your Spirit of blessedness and peace. Amen.
A Collect for Peace
Most holy God, the source of all good desires, all right judgments, and all just works: Give to us, your servants, that peace which the world cannot give, so that our minds may be fixed on the doing of your will, and that we, being delivered from the fear of all enemies, may live in peace and quietness; through the mercies of Christ Jesus our Savior.
