Melchior Broederlam: Presentation of Christ. The dedication of the firstborn son to God also marks the ritual cleanliness of his mother Mary under Jewish law. It was accompanied by a sacrifice, which Jesus himself became years later.

Luke 1:68-79
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; *
he has come to his people and set them free.
